Hanrahan collects win… on day off
Pirates reliever Joel Hanrahan was credited with a victory on Thursday, while enjoying a day off with the team in Philadelphia. Yes, despite not playing on Thursday and no longer being with Washington anymore, Hanrahan picked up a win — as a member of the Nationals — anyways.
Confused yet? Here’s the deal…
On Thursday, the Nationals and Astros completed a game that had been suspended in the 11th inning back on May 5. At the time of the suspension, the game was tied 10-10, with Washington batting in the bottom of the inning.
Hanrahan, who was in the Nationals’ bullpen up until he was traded to Pittsburgh on June 30, had entered in the top of the 11th and pitched a scoreless frame. Fast forward to Thursday when the game was resumed and the Nationals needed only seven minutes to take the win in the bottom of the 11th. Hanrahan, being the pitcher of record, was then given the win.
As a result, Hanrahan now closes his time with Washington this season with a 1-3 record.
