Bucs to build Mazeroski statue

A source has confirmed that the Pirates will be unveiling plans for a statue of Bill Mazeroski that will eventually sit outside PNC Park on Mazeroski Way. The official announcement will come during PirateFest this weekend.
This is a fitting year for such a project considering its the 50th anniversary of the Pirates’ 1960 World Series Championship. As everyone in Pittsburgh knows, it was Mazeroski’s walk-off homer in Game 7 against the Yankees that sealed the Series win.
Mazeroski, as well as other players from that 1960 club, will be on hand to sign autographs at PirateFest, which runs Friday through Sunday.
The Pirates already have statues of Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell and Honus Wagner standing outside the ballpark.

This is awesome. I am from the same town as Maz and was lucky enough to meet him a few times as a kid. I remember him taking the time not only to sign autographs but also to take the time to talk to me for a minute or two also. A great honor for a great person and player.
