The Pirates announced on Wednesday that Pirates Charities will team with organizations in Wheeling, West Va., to build a Miracle League field in the area. The field, which is scheduled to be completed in the fall, is designed for use by children with special needs. Pirates Charities and Freddy Sanchez helped finance a Miracle League field outside of Pittsburgh last year.
The Pirates plans to be directly involved in the initiative by having players participate in the ground-breaking and grand opening ceremonies. The Pirates will also hold a “Miracle League Day” at PNC Park this summer to recognize the children who use these fields.
