The Pirates traded Double-A righty Ronald Uviedo for left-hander Dana Eveland from the Blue Jays. Eveland, who had been designated for assignment on May 23, will join the Pirates’ rotation.
The Pirates will make a corresponding move to add Eveland to the 25-man roster once he reports to Pittsburgh.
In nine starts for Toronto this year, Eveland went 3-4 with a 6.45 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings pitched. He is 16-21 with a 5.66 ERA in his big-league career, which has included time with four organizations since 2005.
Said general manager Neal Huntington of the acquisition: “He has an interesting four-pitch mix, and we feel this acquisition is a potential upgrade for our current rotation with the upside of years of control and improved production.”
More details to come from PNC Park later this afternoon.
