Bucs ink Drew Maggi (15th round), Jared Lakind (23rd)
It’s not Jameson Taillon (yet), but the Pirates have reached agreements with another two of their selections from the June First-Year Player Draft. Drew Maggi, a 15th-round pick out of Arizona State University, has agreed to a signing bonus of $468,000, according to baseball sources.
An agreement with Jared Lakind, drafted in the 23rd-round, has also been completed. Lakind’s bonus is also confirmed to be above-slot.
Maggi, a shortstop, hit .26ith 10 doubles, three triples, five homers, 36 stolen bases and 41 RBIs in 62 games as a sophomore last year. He was draft-eligible because of his age.
Lakind joins the Pirates out of Cypress Woods (Texas) High School. The first baseman hit .404 with 15 doubles, five homers and a .523 on-base percentage last season. He had committed to play baseball at the University of Arkansas.
The deadline to sign players drafted this summer is midnight ET tonight.
