News and notes

A few miscellaneous items:
- The Pirates have signed Tyler Yates to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Yates last pitched in 2009.
- It appears like the last pitch Chan Ho Park will throw in his accomplished Major League career will be in a Pirates uniform. Park has agreed to a one-year contract with Japan’s Orix Buffaloes. I haven’t heard Park officially say he’ll never return to the US to play again, but at the age of 37, it seems unlikely.
- Infielder Argenis Diaz, who the Pirates non-tendered earlier in the month, has signed a Minor League deal with the Tigers. With other middle infielder options, the Pirates were not trying to bring Diaz back.
