Day 16: Yankees @ Pirates

Jenifer Langosch/MLB.com

The McKechnie Field crew just rolled the tarp onto the field and the first raindrops I’ve seen this spring have started to fall. Nothing heavy (hopefully enough to wash away some of this pollen), and we should still be good to see a 1:05 pm first pitch.

This is New York’s only trip to Bradenton this spring, though the Pirates travel to play the Yankees twice up in Tampa later this month.

Morning news…

  • Evan Meek (right calf tightness) and Joe Beimel (forearm tightness) are both scheduled to throw bullpen sessions today. There isn’t a set date for either to get into their first Grapefruit League game, though neither should be held out for too much longer.
  • The following pitchers are scheduled to throw on Wednesday: Ross Ohlendorf, Tony Watson, Joel Hanrahan, Jose Veras, Mike Crotta, Chris Leroux
  • The MLB Players Association is making its round this spring and will be in Bradenton to meet with Pirates players on Wednesday morning. Executive director Michael Weiner will address the group.
  • For those of you who have XM radio, the MLB Network Radio Channel is broadcasting live from Bradenton today. Tune in from 10 am – 2 pm to hear the broadcast.
