Marte bothered by groin tightness
Pirates top outfielder prospect Starling Marte was removed in the first inning of a Dominican Winter League game on Tuesday due to tightness in his groin. Marte played the top of the inning in the outfield before being pinch-hit for in the bottom half of the frame.
Assistant general manager Kyle Stark said the injury is not expected to be serious and that the decision to pull Marte out of the game was a conservative one. The Pirates expect to know more today regarding the severity.
Marte batted .340 with eight runs scored, three doubles, one homer and five RBIs in his first 12 DWL games.
