Minor League free agent lists

Baseball America has released the list of players who have become Minor League free agents, and it’s a list that includes 24 Pirates players. Among the more notable names are Jose Ascanio, Brandon Wood, Jeff Clement and Donnie Veal. The full list is as follows:

I’m sorry to see Donnie Veal on the free agent list. I thought he had potential as a starter and wish the Pirates had protected him.
Why are Steve Pearce and Brian Burres not on the minor league free agent list?
Pearce and Burres had not officially declared for Minor League free agency at the time that this list was put out. These lists are updated regularly, and Pearce and Burres will be on the next one.
You might remember, too, that Veal was a Minor League free agent last winter and the Pirates signed him to a Minor League deal. Don’t be surprised if the club does that again this winter.
