McLouth deal likely to be official today

The Pirates have reached an agreement on a one-year deal with outfielder Nate McLouth, as was reported on Tuesday. The deal is still pending a physical, but I’m told that everything will likely be finalized on Wednesday. The deal will be worth $1.75 million.

For more on the signing and McLouth’s fit in Pittsburgh, you can read this.

Jenifer, Do you just report on pretty much done deals ie McClouth? You have not said a word about Betemit plus possible interest in Bedard & Francis I’m picking that info from other Blogs. Jenifer, this is for my info only ,I was just wondering about the lack of comments from you. Not being critical just wanted to understand.

Nope, I report on information that I can confirm independently. When it comes to the Betemit rumors, I was told that the news regarding him was not accurate. So, obviously, I was not going to start reporting it simply because it was in another publication. One thing for readers to keep in mind — especially during this week each year — is that rumors aren’t necessarily true. In fact, a lot of them end up being completely off base. It’s my job to sift through what I hear and put out what I know is fact. I would be negligent simply writing about what other people say without doing my own reporting.
