Some notes about my upcoming departure

Jenifer Langosch/

Ever since I made this announcement a few weeks ago, I’ve been inundated with questions about the specifics of the upcoming transition. I’ve tried to respond to as many of you as I could individually, but perhaps now would be a good time to put out a mass update.

First, I hope you will join me in welcoming Tom Singer to Pittsburgh. As was announced just a little while earlier, he will soon take over as Pirates beat writer for Tom has roots in Pittsburgh, and I can assure you that he is thrilled about the opportunity to return. He’s been an asset with for years, most recently serving as a national writer/columnist on our staff. He introduced himself here in his blog earlier this evening. You can also follow him on Twitter @Tom_Singer.

As for when the transition in coverage will be made, I can’t give you an exact date at the moment. I am actually writing this entry from a St. Louis hotel room, as I arrived here this evening in advance of the Cardinals Winter Warm Up event over the weekend. I’ll be assisting Matthew Leach with coverage this weekend, though the Cardinals beat is still technically his for a little while longer.

I will continue to handle Pirates coverage for another week or two before handing it off to Tom. And as soon as I know my exact departure (for you Pirates readers) and arrival (for you Cardinals readers) date, I will let everyone know.

Before ending this, I must tell you all how appreciative I have been of all the emails and messages these last few weeks. I’ve been touched by the well wishes and the notes of appreciation from those who have followed my Pirates coverage. And to all of you Cardinals fans, thank you so much for the warm welcome. The move is certainly bittersweet, but I hope that it ends up being a good fit for all involved.

Well Jenifer, I thought if I ignored it, it wouldn’t happen, but that’s not to be. The good news is if I want to read what you write I’ll just have to add the Cardinal’s web page to my bookmarks. I wish you all the best, I have enjoyed reading your writing – especially the article on AJ after his accident (do you know how he’s doing these days?) and the one on how the wives deal with trades and moving. You wrote many other things, but those two items just struck me and stuck in my brain. I’ll miss seeing you at spring training.
What a great life your talent has brought you!

Cardinals fan here. Leach was a fantastic writer, and I will miss his contributions to the Cardinals website. However, I am looking forward to the Cards’ beat writer having local roots. I read somewhere that you are a Mizzou grad. Best wishes to you, and good luck on the next step of your career. St. Louis is a fantastic city and will treat you well.

Plus…girls with baseball knowledge are always awesome🙂

Jen, I’ve followed your blog for years. You’ve been a fantastic beat writer, and as a Pirates fan, it’s been a pleasure getting to read your work. It stinks you’re leaving, but I wish you nothing but the absolute best in St. Louis. Great organization and great fan base. (Still hate the team!)

A thought just came to mind. Once you make the final transition to become the writer for the Cardinals, do you know what your new handle will be for your blog? I figure it’s safe to assume you won’t keep bucsbits, nor would you take yourenotagolfer.

I don’t want to miss a beat if I can help it.
