May 24: Phillies (22-23) @ Cardinals (25-19)

Jenifer Langosch/MLB.com

For the first time since last year’s National League Division Series, the Cardinals-Phillies are set to meet again. The build-up to this series has been pretty minimal, likely the result of the Cardinals recent stall and the fact that the Phillies enter in last place. Still, at 22-23, the Phillies are certainly not the Padres, who St. Louis just swept.

While the Phillies are still without Ryan Howard, several of their hitters have had notable success against Cardinals starter Jake Westbrook. That includes Jimmy Rollins (5-for-9), Ty Wigginton (5-for-15), Placido Polanco (9-for-28) and Hunter Pence (7-for-12).

As we’ve seen already this season, it usually doesn’t take long to figure out how Westbrook’s night is going to progress. If he’s getting groundballs early, he should be in good shape.

Molina can plead all he wants, but he should be telling Westbrook to throw strikes. he aint even close.

Clutch hitting, lack of little ball, and poor middle relief or hurting the Cards. Why do some of the big stars stand up at the plate and take KCs with men in scoring position. As a former H.S. baseball coach, our players were not about to take KCs.They dreaded the next workout.
Salaas is not a major league pitcher. Why throw him at lefties when he can’t get them out.
This was the second game that serious running mistakes took us out of games by great players who ought to know better.
We have the best players, even with some on the DL, in the division and probably the league. Philly has some key players out and they overcome it. Someone else has to step up and play better.
hope that we get Carpenter back soon because we are a starter short. !,2,3,4, then hope.
The Cards have done some outstanding things. Last night was one of them only to have it blown by a class-A reliever.
