May 29: Cardinals (27-22) @ Braves (26-24)

Jenifer Langosch/MLB.com

The Cardinals are currently 13-14 in the month of May, meaning that they’ll need victories in these final two games of the month to finish May with a winning record. That would be a pretty substantial achievement given how poor this team played during varying parts of the month.

However, for as bad as things have gone for the Cardinals at times in May, the Braves are mired in a skid much worse. Not only have they lost eight straight, but if these last few days are any indication of how they’ve played, it’s been ugly, too.

Third baseman David Freese is sitting out again today with right wrist soreness/tightness. He said the hand is better than yesterday, but still aggravating. The Cardinals see no reason to push Freese and risk the pain becoming worse. Freese has already had an X-ray taken of the wrist, and no fracture was found. For the time being, no MRI has been scheduled.
