Matt Adams out until after All-Star break

The Cardinals received encouraging news regarding Matt Adams and his ailing right elbow after Adams had his arm examined by a physician on Wednesday. Adams was told by the doctor that he is not risking further injury by playing through the discomfort. The Cardinals, therefore, will let Adams wait and address the issue after the season, as long as he can tolerate some discomfort.
The organization is also going to give Adams an extended break right now in hopes that some time off can clear up some of the irritation. Adams hasn’t played since June 30 and won’t, farm director John Vuch said, until after the Triple-A All-Star break next week (July 9-11). When game play resumes, Adams will ease back in by taking batting practice and defensive work.
The Cardinals are, right now, projecting that Adams will return around July 16. After spending about a month on the Major League roster, Adams returned to Memphis and batted .414 there in eight games in June.
