July 15: Cardinals (46-42) @ Reds (49-38)

Lance Berkman is back in the starting lineup as the Cardinals look to avoid being swept by the Reds on national television tonight. Yes, for those of you out of the St. Louis market, remember this is an ESPN game. So you can watch, too. St. Louis doesn’t have to go all that far back to find the last time it was swept by the Reds. That came from May 13-15, 2011,  here at Great American Ball Park.

Manager Mike Matheny said he strongly considered giving Carlos Beltran the night off — Beltran has looked off at the plate and has labored in the field this series — but Matheny opted against it since Allen Craig was already scheduled to get a night of rest. Expect Beltran to sit tomorrow.

The Cardinals are hopeful that Berkman, in his first start since May 19, will be able to finish a full nine innings at first base. But that’s certainly not a guarantee given how long its been since Berkman’s body has had to endure that type of demand.

In case you missed the news last night, the Reds scratched scheduled starter Johnny Cueto due to a blister and are sending right-hander Homer Bailey to the mound instead.

i have only a few things to say about this last horrific series with the reds where is the bullpen why aren’t the general manager looking at pitching when you have two starters out and at least three relievers boggs.salas, sanchez and at times i question marte ok alot i question marte or marta .whatever make some changes or you won’t see even the playoffs .somebody please get with it

The Cardinals are going no ware until they get ride of M & M, (Mozeliak & inex periance, 2nd string catcher Matheny)

Gene, Springfield, MO

Gene, Your out of your mind. Mozeliak won the world series for us last year with the acquisitions he made. Get your eyes checked

Why do we take Freeze out of EVERY game ?? Especially when we are losing ?? Makes no damn sense !!!!

ITS MARTE, VICTOR….AND RECEPTZZINCI(?) OUGHT TO GO TOO….IN FACT
THE M&M sisters SHOULD BEG TONY TO STAY ON BOARD TILL MIKE CAN
LEARN A LOT OF TONYS THO’S…..THREE GAMES SQUANDERED BECAUSE OF MENTAL LAPSES BY OUR ROOKIE MGR…..ONE WAS PITCHING TO RYAN
LUEBECK<?) FORMER CARDINAL WHO AVERAGED 20HOMERS A YEAR, AND THERE FOR WAS NO SURPRISE TO DO LIKE WISE ON A 'WALKOFF'
HOMER THAT EVERY ONE COULD SEE COMING….THEN HE BRINGS IN "MARTE" WHO 'ALWAYS' GIVE UP AT LEAST ONE OR TWO RUNS PLUS A
HOMER…WHICH WAS NO SURPRISE…..AND RECIP(WHATEVER??) ALWAYS GIVES UP HITS, BUT HAS DONE BETTER OF LATE ON THE HOMERS…

LOOKING BACK TO SPRING……THE CARDS FINALLY OPENED THEIR EYES AND SENT 5 BULL PENNERS DOWN, AND KEPT RECEPT(WHATISNAME),
AND THEN ALLOWED JASON MOTTE TO GIVE UP A TWO RUN HOMER THAT
THE CARD TOOK BACK…BUT MY POINT IS THAT SOME ONE SHOULD BE CHECKING THE PULSES ON THE NEW PITCHERS COMING UP FOR THE FIRST TIME…..KELLY HAS BEEN GOOD, AND ROSENTAHAL SHOULD STICK,
BUT 3/4's OF THE OPENING DAY BULL PENN ARE SELLING SHOES SOME WHERE…FEEL FREE TO TAKE THIS TO MIKE AND ASK HIM TO "BEG" TONY TO BE AROUND FOR THE HOME GAMES, JUST TO FILL IN MIKES LIMITED
KNOWLEDGE OF THE OPPOSING IN HITTERS…..AND I THINK MY MIND WAS WANDERING CAUSE I SAW A COUPLE OF "SACRAFICES" UNLESS I WAS DREAMING….NEITHER PANNED OUT BUT THE ODDS WERE BETTER….AND LET FREESE HIT…..HE NEEDS TO WATCH MOLINA AND HOLIDAY, BOTH OF WHOM CAN HIT WHAT THEY EXPECT THE NEXT PITCH WILL BE…

MTN PHANTOM

Spellcheck and Caps Lock would do you a lot of good.
