Skip Schumaker’s career numbers (7-for-12 with four RBIs) against Giants starter Barry Zito earns him the start tonight at second base. This snaps a string of 11 straight starts for Daniel Descalso. Descalso’s starts had been split between second and short.

The Cardinals enter the night 11 games above .500 for the first time this season. The club has won four straight and 13 of its last 17.

In the game tonight Skip was ruled to have swung at a pitch that hit his hand and he was called out. I thought if a batter swings at a pitch and it hits the batter’s hand, the hand is considered part of the bat. Why was it not ruled a foul ball?
