August 16: D-backs (58-59) @ Cardinals (64-53)

Jenifer Langosch/

Ominous skies right now, as a pretty nasty thunderstorm passed over Busch Stadium a bit ago. And boy did the temperature plummet. In less than two hours, temperatures dropped from 96 degrees to 74 degrees. The forecast looks decent enough for this evening, so hopefully this game gets in without delay or interruption.

If there are any weather changes to announce, I’ll pass those along on my Twitter account.

Assuming this game gets played, the Cardinals will be looking to not only sweep this series against Arizona but also to sweep the season series. St. Louis won all three games it played in Arizona in May. The club then added victories here on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Yadier Molina will miss a second straight game because of back tightness, though that tightness was described as slightly improved. Manager Mike Matheny said he expects to know around game time whether Molina would even be available off the bench.

Tastee Freese needs to have a big game tonight

18 blown saves is not a steady bullpen. If you halve that number, Cards are in first place. No excuse for a ballplayer to give up two home runs in a 1-0 ballgame. It’s basic Little League instruction.
