September 4: Mets (64-71) @ Cardinals (73-62)

Jenifer Langosch/MLB.com

Top prospect Shelby Miller is here in St. Louis and available to pitch out of the ‘pen as soon as it is necessary. Count me among those interested in not only seeing how his ability plays at this level, but also how Miller adapts to a change in role and routine.

Joining the team from Memphis as well are infielder Ryan Jackson and outfielder Adron Chambers. Both have been up on the big-league club already this season.

Also of note today — Chris Carpenter threw another three simulated innings on the mound. It’s his latest step toward a late-season return to the rotation. Carpenter is slated to throw a side session on Friday and then take the mound to throw against teammates again next Monday. In that session, he’ll further build up his arm.

Much more on Carpenter and Miller later in tonight’s notebook on cardinals.com.
