September 15: Cardinals (76-69) @ Dodgers (75-70)

Jenifer Langosch/MLB.com

Chris Carpenter threw a 95-pitch simulated game here at Dodger Stadium this afternoon. All expectations are that this is the final step before Carpenter returns to the rotation. A final decision, though, isn’t expected until Monday, as the Cardinals want to see how Carpenter’s arm responds to the increased workload.

You can read much more from Carpenter and about Carpenter on cardinals.com later tonight.

Also of note, Carlos Beltran sits tonight after his lower back tightened up on him when he cut off a ball on Saturday night. Matt Carpenter takes his place in right field.

The Dodgers have scratched Clayton Kershaw from Sunday’s start due to a right hip injury. Facing the Cardinals instead will be Stephen Fife. More on that here.
