September 23: Cardinals (81-71) @ Cubs (59-93)

Yadier Molina described his lower back as “way better,” a day after he was removed due to spasms/tightness in the ninth inning. He is not in the lineup today after starting 12 straight games, but he remains optimistic that he won’t be out long. He still describes the pain as much less than the lower back discomfort he dealt with in August.

Molina will not participate in any baseball activities on Sunday.

Carlos Beltran is out of the lineup as well, as he deals with an illness. Manager Mike Matheny said the issue could be food poisoning, though that wasn’t definitively determined. Beltran did come up to the ballpark today; his availability is questionable. He spent the morning in the trainers’ room.

The Cardinals enter the day with a chance for a series win and with a 2.5-game lead for the second Wild Card.

Pretty sure you have to win all the games in a series to call it a sweep.

87-71….We wish! Going for 2 out of 3 and not a sweep.
