Beltran’s status still undetermined

Carlos Beltran’s status for Friday’s National League Championship Game against San Francisco remains in limbo, as manager Mike Matheny has delayed writing out his lineup card for Game 5 until he gets a better indication of Beltran’s health.

Beltran, who suffered a left knee sprain on Wednesday, was still receiving treatment for the injury at the time Matheny addressed the media during a 3:15 p.m. CT press conference. The club has opted to wait until closer to game time to see how Beltran’s knee responds to that treatment.

Though he didn’t appear in the Cardinals’ win on Thursday, Beltran said afterward that his knee gave him little trouble when he tested it while hitting in the indoor batting cage. He pushed his knee through some light jogging, as well, but had not done any additional running as of early Friday afternoon.

The biggest concern is whether Beltran’s knee is strong enough to be able to handle duties in right field.

Apparently as per your tweet he is in the lineup. This is a bad decision I fear. It is a mistake to play him when they are up 3-1. He could suffer worse injury and could be more helpful if they lose a game or two. And they will need all the firepower they have against Detroit’s fine starters should they get to the series.
