Game 7 NLCS Lineups

Jenifer Langosch/

Matt Holliday — at least, for now — is in the Cardinals’ Game 7 startingl lineup. Obviously, he’ll have to prove to manager Mike Matheny during batting practice that his lower back truly is fine. If so, Matheny will be going with his preferred starting eight for the team’s third win-or-go-home game of this postseason.

That also means that Matt Carpenter — who has had great success, albeit in a small sample size, against Matt Cain — will be on the bench.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. CT.

Probably not great that Holiday is back in, as he seems not to be able to hit well under pressure. Too many swings at bad pitches this post-season (with Craig and Molina not too far behind). Matt Carpenter has also done well. Hope they can put it all together and Lohse can remain steady.

“Wow. Matheny will not allow Lohse the chance to get out of this mess. In comes Joe Kelly with the bases full and no outs.”

Another rookie mistake. Clearly you have to let the best pitcher of the year on the team work his way our of trouble that early (and he wouldn’t take Carpenter out for offense yesterday when he had already given up 5 to “save” the bullpen. Nor stick with hotter Matt Carpenter over Holliday at the plate tonight, Rookie coaching mistakes finally sunk us along with Giants excellent pitching of course.

It was a great season with lots of amazing highlights. Can’t expect to go to the Series every year. My only wish for next year is that they trade Holliday and get more pitching. Can you imagine Molina, Chris Carpenter, Pujols, etc. missing Game 7 of the World Series last year (hand injury) and Game 6 of the NLCS this year (stiff back)? Plus Holliday had to mention that his shin was sore a few days ago. He managed to stay in the lineup with that one, though. What a trooper.
