The Arizona Fall League selected Cardinals prospects Kolten Wong and Sam Freeman to participate in the upcoming Rising Stars Game, though mild left bicep tendinitis will keep Freeman from playing in the showcase game and likely from the rest of the AFL season.
Freeman threw an inning in relief on Monday but informed staff of arm discomfort after the outing. He has been shut down as a precaution, though Cardinals farm director John Vuch said the tendinitis is not considered to be serious at all. Because the AFL wraps up on Nov. 15, Freeman will not have much time to return to the mound during the season.
The left-hander ended up pitching in seven games, allowing three earned runs and 11 hits in seven innings.
Wong will appear in the Rising Stars Game, which will be played on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be televised by MLB Network.
