Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is slated to make his winter ball debut this Saturday for the Gigantes de Carolina team, which participates in the Puerto Rican League. General manager John Mozeliak said that Molina is expected to spend about two weeks with the club before turning his attention back to his off-the-field winter work.

Molina, a native of Puerto Rico, has played winter ball in his home country before. The club he will join is currently 10-12 and five games behind the division leader in the six-team league. Molina will also become a teammate of two Cardinals minor league players — outfielder Anthony Garcia and right-hander Juan Caballero.

Molina has also already committed to playing on the Puerto Rican club that will participate in the 16-team World Baseball Classic tournament next March.

For those wanting to track Molina or any other winter ball participant, MLB.com’s winter ball page (which can be found at this link) is a terrific resource.
