Wigginton, Cards reach agreement

MLB.com has confirmed a report by FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal that the Cardinals have reached an agreement with free-agent Ty Wigginton. The deal is pending a physical, which has been scheduled for today. Rosenthal reported that Wigginton will sign a two-year contract.
Adding Wigginton to the roster gives the Cardinals the right-handed hitting veteran bench player they sought. The 35-year-old Wigginton can fill in as a corner outfielder and corner infielder, giving St. Louis some versatility. He hit .235 with 11 home runs in 360 plate appearances last year with the Phillies.
