Motte, Cardinals reach two-year agreement

The Cardinals announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have reached a two-year agreement with closer Jason Motte. By signing Motte for more than the requisite one year, the club will avoid having to go through the arbitration process with Motte again in 2014. He will be a free agent at the end of the two-year deal.
Financial terms of the contract were not immediately known. Motte had filed for a $5.5 million salary in this his second year of arbitration eligibility. The Cardinals had countered with a $4.5 million figure. Motte earned $1.95 million in 2012, a season in which he led the National League with 42 saves.
The Cardinals now have two arbitration-eligible players left to sign: David Freese and Marc Rzepczynski.

2 years 12 mil. I’m guessing 5 for the first, 7 for the second? I’ll buy that. Now if we can get Waino signed long term, 2014 could be Wainwright, Garcia, Miller, Rosenthal, Lynn with Martinez the insurance should Lynn be better suited in the pen or Garcia’s arm falling off. Umm, yes please!
