Day 13: Cardinals @ Marlins
Jenifer Langosch/MLB.com
The Cardinals open Grapefruit League play on Saturday with a “road” game against the Marlins. Because the two teams share a complex here in Jupiter, the Cards don’t have to travel. In fact, their first true road game isn’t until Tuesday when the club makes the trek to Fort Myers.
Preceding the 1:05 p.m. ET game will be a two-hour workout, which will include a bunt-off championship between the winner of the pitchers’ bracket (Michael Blazek) and the position player competition (Pete Kozma). Bench coach Mike Aldrete claimed the coaching staff crown, though it doesn’t appear as if he’ll take part in today’s championship bunt battle.
Joe Kelly will throw live batting practice at 11 am ET. Jaime Garcia, Jason Motte, Mitchell Boggs and Kevin Siegrist are each scheduled to throw side sessions this morning.
