Day 14: Red Sox @ Cardinals
Jenifer Langosch/MLB.com
The Cardinals play host to the Red Sox this afternoon in the team’s first home game of the spring. Matt Carpenter made his spring debut at second base yesterday, but he’ll get his first start there today. That allows Daniel Descalso to shift to third, a position the Cardinals intend to keep him familiar with.
Rafael Furcal is serving as the designated hitter and leading off so that he is assured of hitting at least once against Boston lefty Jon Lester. Furcal can only swing right-handed at the moment, so the Cardinals need to make sure he comes up against a left-hander. Those limitations may mean only one at-bat in the game for the shortstop.
