Day 28: Mets @ Cardinals

Jenifer Langosch/

As reported on yesterday, this will be the final game for manager Mike Matheny before he returns to St. Louis for a back procedure. He is expected to return to Jupiter, Fla., on Wednesday (an off day for the team) and be back in the dugout on Thursday.

Also after the game today, the Cardinals will leave for a rare spring “road trip.” Those who are scheduled to play in Monday’s game will take a bus to Tampa tonight and spend the night there. That eliminates the need for a near four-hour trip on Monday morning. After Monday’s game, one bus will bring players back to Jupiter. Another will take other players to Orlando for Tuesday’s game. For those who are playing in Orlando and not Tampa, they’ll travel on Tuesday morning.

Matt Holliday is back in the clubhouse this morning after battling a three-day stomach virus. He is not in the lineup, but the fact that he is no longer quarantined is certainly an encouraging development.
