Day 36: Mets @ Cardinals

Jenifer Langosch/MLB.com

While I was out this weekend, the Cardinals sent several players out to Minor League camp, which leaves 40 players on the Major League spring training roster. That number will have to be reduced to 25 over the next two weeks, and several decisions are left to be made. Who will take the fifth rotation spot? Will Matt Adams or Ronny Cedeno be left off the bench? Does Fernando Salas take the final bullpen spot? How will playing time at second base be divided?

Clarity on some of those topics could come within the next few days. Other decisions likely won’t be made until near the close of camp.

In the meantime, the Cardinals will take on the Mets on Monday. Due to an oddity in the schedule, the Cardinals actually face the Mets five times in their last 11 games. Today’s game will be televised on FOX Sports Midwest (12:05 p.m. CT).
