May 29: Royals (21-28) @ Cardinals (34-17)
After defeating the Royals twice in Kansas City, the Cardinals now host them for a pair of games here at Busch Stadium. It kicks off a nine-game homestand for a Cardinals team that currently boasts the Majors’ best record.
Michael Wacha drove to St. Louis from Memphis this afternoon in advance of his start tomorrow. He met with the media (a lot of media) this afternoon and you can read all that Wacha had to say on cardinals.com a little later today. Wacha, the No. 19 overall pick in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, will be making his debut less than a year after he finished his final college season.
Also, a few quick injury updates:
- Chris Carpenter estimated he threw about 25 pitches in a bullpen session on Wednesday. He said afterward that his arm felt fine.
- Jake Westbrook (right elbow inflammation) is set to throw a more intense bullpen session on Thursday. He last threw off the mound on Monday (40 pitches) and felt good enough to cancel a visit to Dr. James Andrews.
- Fernando Salas (right shoulder inflammation) said that he has not resumed throwing and still does not know when he will be cleared to start throwing again.
There will be more details on each of these rehab situations in the cardinals.com notebook tonight.
