June 13: Cardinals (42-23) @ Mets (24-36)

Jenifer Langosch/MLB.com

The weather forecast heading into today was not at all promising, though for the time being the tarp is off the field and the groundscrew is preparing as if there is going to be a game. The Cardinals are monitoring the forecast and if it’s a situation where the window of clear skies will be short, there is always the option of sending Joe Kelly to the mound to start. The last thing the Cardinals want to do is start Adam Wainwright and then see the skies open and the game delayed or possibly postponed.

Not much else in the way of news this morning. Tyler Lyons and Michael Wacha just finished throwing bullpen sessions, side by side. The fact that they both threw today means each remains a candidate to start on Sunday. The organization has not yet announced who is staying in the rotation upon Jake Westbrook’s return and who is headed out.

A day after having his 20-game hitting streak snapped, David Freese is out of the lineup. He is not out due to any sort of injury issue.
