June 20: Cubs (29-41) @ Cardinals (46-26)

Lance Lynn will be after his 10th win of the season tonight in the series finale between the Cardinals and Cubs. Lynn reached the 10-win mark on June 13 last season. The Cardinals are also looking to scrap a win-one, lose-one pattern that has persisted since June 11.

Quick news on Chris Carpenter (you can find a more detailed story in the notebook later today): the lower back tightness that first cropped up while he threw on Sunday has not allowed Carpenter to return to the mound since. The area of tightness, general manager John Mozeliak said, is in Carpenter’s lower back — it’s the same issue that Carpenter dealt with in Spring Training 2012, before the thoracic outlet syndrome diagnosis was given after additional symptoms surfaced. The Cardinals do not believe the tightness is too severe, though the club hopes to have a better handle on the issue Friday, after additional doctors review the medical report.
