July 3: Cardinals (49-33) @ Angels (40-43)

Matt Holliday (pinched nerve in neck) is out of the lineup for the second straight day, but he did say that he is improving. Holliday did not take on-field batting practice with the club, but he was seen with a bat in hand about an hour before scheduled first pitch. He said he may take some swings in the indoor cage to see if he’d be available to come off the bench tonight. Regardless of whether Holliday plays tonight or not, the progress he’s made in 24 hours has the Cardinals encouraged that this will not be a long-term issue.

As for the Cardinals, they enter tonight’s game having won just two of their last seven games. Of particular interest is how Shelby Miller bounces back after a career-short 1 2/3-inning start on Friday. He’s labored through the first inning with regularity this season, so how he fares early could be a harbinger for how the night goes.

Feldman and Marmol were traded and Cardinals made no pitch for them despite growing need for veteran help? Will be too bad if the excellent lineup was to miss the playoffs through pitching deficiencies.

I believe the radio announcers for LAA owes Mike Mathany an apology for their on air comment about Mikes pitching change in the ninth inning with 2 outs. the comment was that was a Rookey Bone Headed move. I realize we don’t live in a perfect world, but that is poor sportsmanship on their part.. Just because they lost 12 to 2 .I have listened to the Redbirds for 50+ years and St Louis announcers report a good play regardless of what team made the play.I wonder how many games they would win with their attitude or what the teammates would think.I am a DIEHARD CARDS FAN,Ihave a tattoo on top of my head representing the STlouis log on a baseball and i have busch Stadium on my back. I’m getting the bat and 2 redbirds on the bat.It will be on mt chest/stomach. Thanks for letting me rant about the LAA radio announcers for the game7/3/13
