Curtis added to Cards’ roster; Blazek optioned
After playing with a four-man bench since Thursday, the Cardinals added position player Jermaine Curtis to the 25-man roster in advance of a key series against the Pirates.
Curtis, who went 0-for-2 during a brief big-league callup earlier this season, will give the Cardinals another right-handed bat off the bench. He was hitting .259 with four homers and 42 RBIs for Triple-A Memphis. Curtis has played second and third this season.
The Cardinals created roster space for Curtis by optioning right-hander Michael Blazek to Memphis. With Michael Wacha transitioning into a relief role, the Cardinals had the flexibility to unplug someone from the ‘pen.
During his most recent stint in the Majors, Blazek allowed five earned runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked six and struck out eight.
