August 18: Cardinals (70-52) @ Cubs (53-69)

Jenifer Langosch/

The Cardinals, 8-7 against the Cubs this season, can earn the series win with a victory behind Adam Wainwright on Sunday. Wainwright also has the chance to join select company, as a win today would improve him to 6-0 in his career at Wrigley Field; only Ron Perranoski, Vida Blue and Bobby J. Jones have won each of their first six decisions at this ballpark.

Wainwright also has the chance to join Washington’s Jordan Zimmermann as the National League’s second 14-game winner. He has been stuck on 13 wins for five starts — his longest winless stretch since last season. Wainwright’s last victory over the Cubs came back in September 2010 here in Chicago.

Once again, Kolten Wong draws the start against the right-handed Edwin Jackson. Daniel Descalso does so as well, perhaps an indication that a platoon is developing at short. Pete Kozma continues to start against lefties, but Descalso has been in the lineup each of the last three times a right-hander has started against the Cardinals.

We need a shortstop.

To all those out there that hate my’we need a shortstop’ posts, just look at what Matheny has been doing with the infield lately. A soild shortstop would fix that.
The issue I have have is the Cards have known tis for months and haven’t seriously addressed it.Hope it doesn’t come back to bite them. And Jen,stop being a cheerleader and point out the flaw. Matt use to step up now and then.
