Matheny finishes fourth in Manager of the Year voting

Count me among the surprised that manager Mike Matheny — who led the Cardinals to a Major League-high 97 wins while using a Major League-most 20 rookies — did not get more consideration in the Manager of the Year voting. Perhaps the Cardinals’ position as a perennial winner hurts him in that there was nothing others believed he could do to exceed expectations.

Anyways, arguments aside, Matheny ended up with a fourth-place finish in the voting, behind Pittsburgh’s Clint Hurdle, Los Angeles’ Don Mattingly and Atlanta’s Fredi Gonzalez.¬†A total of 30 votes were cast — each NL city’s chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (which, for full disclosure, does not include MLB.com for membership) had two members turn in a ballot. Here is how the votes were distributed:

The BBWAA website posts the ballots of the voters on its website, and you can see those ballots here.

Hard to believe the PD writer couldn’t see MM’s work as worthy of a vote. Guess he will not vote Yadi as MVP either.

Yankees talking about Freese.I wonder for who?
