Cards minor leaguer Pierce suspended
Major League Baseball announced on Wednesday that Cardinals minor league pitcher Andrew Pierce has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for an amphetamine. The positive test is a violation of the Minor League Drug and Prevention Program.
Pierce, an eighth-round pick from the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, will serve his suspension at the start of the 2014 season. He pitched in 12 games for State College last summer after signing a $10,000 bonus with the organization. Pierce allowed 10 earned runs on 43 hits in 42 2/3 innings. He struck out 36 and walked seven.
