Day 16: Marlins (0-0) @ Cardinals (0-0)

wpid-0228140829.jpgTo the left, you’ll see the lineup for today’s Grapefruit League opener, which features Carlos Martinez against Jose Fernandez, reigning Rookie of the Year. Though the Cardinals plan to wait a bit before having Yadier Molina start catching, he will get some at-bats today as the team’s designated hitter. Matt Holliday is expected to DH tomorrow.

Martinez will be followed on the mound by Tyler Lyons this afternoon. Marco Gonzales, Jorge Rondon, Keith Butler and Pat Neshek will also be available out of the bullpen.

The Cardinals have lined up their spring rotation, and it will unfold as follows: Lance Lynn (Saturday), Michael Wacha (Sunday), Joe Kelly (Monday), Shelby Miller (Wednesday) and Adam Wainwright (Thursday). The Cardinals have also scheduled a “B” game against the Marlins next Wednesday in order to find additional work for some of their pitchers.

Good news for those of you who may have sent in baseball cards to be signed by players; you’ll likely be getting your cards back soon. Several players formed an assembly line — one to open envelopes, another to organize, another to read, another to sign and another to seal the envelope — to help each other sift through their stacks of mail. Quite the show of teamwork, or, as Kelly said several times, “It’s the Cardinal Way.”

Kozma getting the start over Peralta? Is that just the same cautiousness that has Holliday on the bench and Molina DHing?
