Day 26: Tigers (6-5) @ Cardinals (2-5)
It has been a fairly quiet morning around the Cardinals’ complex this Monday, though there are two press conferences scheduled for later today. The first will be to introduce Cuban shortstop Aledmys Diaz, who signed a four-year deal with the Cardinals on Sunday. General manager John Mozeliak will also speak at the gathering, which will begin at 10:30 am CT.
After today’s game, there will then be a press conference to announce details of the Homers for Health initiative that players have been involved in for the last two seasons to raise money for the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. This year, there will be an added wrinkle with Adam Wainwright and Jason Motte getting involved alongside Matt Holliday and Allen Craig. That means the group won’t just be counting home runs; it will be raising money with strikeouts, too.
The four players spent the morning doing a photo shoot for the initiative.
On the field, it will be Shelby Miller vs. Cy Young winner Max Scherzer. Sam Freeman, Tyler Lyons, Keith Butler and Pat Neshek are all available out of the bullpen. Oscar Taveras (right hamstring tightness) remains out of the lineup for a second straight day.
