March 21 Q of the Day

I noticed this year the Cardinals played their home and away Spring Training games in red batting practice shirts and batting practice hats. Why the change this year? I like the look, and is there any chance they will use that shirt or hat during the season?

As first reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch earlier in camp, manager Mike Matheny (with the input of some veteran players) chose to have players wear the red jerseys this spring so that they could earn the white ones. As a result, you won’t see players wearing their regular season uniforms (whites or greys) until the regular season starts.

Once we get into April, these red jerseys will be worn solely for batting practice.
