Day 40: Cardinals (10-10) @ Mets (13-11)
This is the final true road game for the Cardinals, who will travel to Port St. Lucie for their sixth spring meeting against the Mets. The club is handling the schedule a bit differently today. Instead of bussing up to take batting practice at the Mets’ spring ballpark, the Cardinals will do all of their hitting here in Jupiter before making the drive. The Cardinals are also taking everyone — including all starting pitchers — on this trip. That’s a first this spring.
This will be the final Grapefruit League start for Shelby Miller, but he’ll likely have to remain in Florida to throw again on Saturday before making his regular-season debut. The Cardinals have said they planned to have each of their starters pitch five times. That would be the only way for Miller to get that fifth outing. It would then put him on turn to start the third game of the regular season.
And an update on the Bracket Challenge we’ve got going on — congrats to Tim Siscoe for making it through the first weekend of games atop our leaderboard. Fortunately, my bracket redeemed itself a bit yesterday.
