April 5: Cardinals (2-2) @ Pirates (3-1)

wpid-0405141557.jpgAfter dropping the first game of this three-game series, things aren’t getting any easier for the Cardinals on Saturday. They’ll be facing Francisco Liriano, who is 9-1 with a 1.45 ERA in 14 career starts at PNC Park. Against the Cardinals, he’s even better. St. Louis faced him three times during the regular season in 2013 and lost all three games while being held to two earned runs in 24 innings.

In the NL Division Series, Liriano gave up two runs in six innings while leading the Pirates to a Game 3 win. His opponent on the mound that night? Joe Kelly, who will also be his opponent tonight.

Kelly will be making his season debut Saturday after winning the job as the team’s fifth starter in spring.

He didn’t win the job; Martinez did.
