April 18: Cardinals (10-6) @ Nationals (9-7)

After starting each of the team’s first 16 games, Matt Adams is out of the lineup for Friday’s game against the Nationals. Manager Mike Matheny said he would find time to rest all of his players during this 20-games-in-20-days stretch, and with lefty Gio Gonzalez on the mound for Washington, this is probably as good a time as any to sit Adams.

With Adams out, Allen Craig moves to first base for the first time this year. He’s also back in the cleanup spot for the first time since April 8.

There will be some speed in the outfield tonight, as Shane Robinson gets his first start and Peter Bourjos returns to the lineup for just the second time in the last five days. Mark Ellis starts at second as Matheny goes right-handed heavy with his lineup. Leadoff hitter Matt Carpenter is the only left-handed hitter that will start against Gonzalez.

Just watched Robinson and Bourjos kill a rally. Why not try Piscotty or Grichuk if they cannot get on track offensively? Robinson at least appears to be making no progress, though Bourjos will have to be given a bit more time I guess.
