May 12: Cubs (12-24) @ Cardinals (19-19)
The Cardinals have returned home and can, this time, unpack their bags for a while. After playing 26 of their first 38 games on the road, the Cardinals now have a stretch where 19 of the next 22 will be played in Busch Stadium. No other team in the Majors has played fewer than 15 home games so far, further confirmation that the Cardinals’ early schedule was unusually road-heavy.
They do arrive back at home on the heels of a dramatic one-run win in Pittsburgh which, if you haven’t already, can be read by clicking here. Particular emphasis was placed on the mound visit manager Mike Matheny made to Miller in the fifth inning. Miller addressed it again today and, more importantly, identified what he plans to change going into his next start as he tries to get back on track. Visit cardinals.com later today to read more on that.
No real nuances with the lineup today. Peter Bourjos is back playing center, as the Cardinals continue with their plan to give him regular starting chances. Also, Jaime Garcia is starting for Triple-A Memphis tonight, so you’ll want to keep an eye on that box score.
For those outside the Fox Sports Midwest viewing area, tonight’s game will also be shown on ESPN.
