May 15: Cubs (13-25) @ Cardinals (20-20)
The weather is much improved from yesterday, though I don’t think a postponement on Wednesday was the worst outcome for the Cardinals. Their bullpen was weary (11 innings over the previous two days) and the club would have been playing down a man because of an illness to Kolten Wong.
Wong was back in the Cardinals’ clubhouse on Thursday and said he was over the 24-hour stomach illness that forced him home almost immediately after arriving back at Busch Stadium. Manager Mike Matheny kept Wong out of Thursday’s lineup so as to give him one more day to fully recover. He is expected to start on Friday and should be available off the bench today.
The Cardinals’ bullpen should also be mostly full. Matheny may want to stay away from Seth Maness (he has pitched four of the last five days), but everyone else should be sufficiently rested.
