May 16: Braves (22-17) @ Cardinals (21-20)

wpid-0516141541.jpgThe Cardinals open a three-game series against the Braves tonight with Kolten Wong back in the lineup and the chance to put together a legitimate winning streak. The club has had only one winning streak longer than two games this season. A win tonight would give the Cardinals three consecutive wins. Baby steps, folks.

Manager Mike Matheny likes the look of his lineup with Wong batting second, particularly against right-handed pitchers. With the Braves starting all righties in this series, I’d expect Wong to be up there in the batting order all weekend.

Reliever Jason Motte returned to St. Louis today to participate in a Homers for Health/K’s for Kids charity event. He pitched two scoreless innings for Triple-A Memphis on Thursday and may not need another rehab appearance. The Cardinals are going to monitor Motte here in St. Louis today and tomorrow before determining whether he is ready to come off the disabled list. If that answer is yes, Motte could be activated as early as Sunday.
