Grichuk joins Cards in Pittsburgh; Robinson to DL
The Cardinals recalled outfielder Randal Grichuk on Tuesday while placing Shane Robinson on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury.
The roster move was expected after Robinson suffered a subluxation (partial joint dislocation) of his shoulder while sliding into second base in the ninth inning of Monday’s 3-2 win. Robinson said after the game that he would be heading back to St. Louis for further examination.
Grichuk gives the Cardinals a replacement outfielder on the roster and offers a right-handed power bat off the bench. Grichuk, acquired by the organization in a trade with the Angels last November, has hit .259/.311/.493 with a team-most 25 homers in 108 games with Triple-A Memphis this season. He has a .325 batting average against left-handed pitching.
The Cardinals carried Grichuk on their Major League roster earlier this year, during which Grichuk went 6-for-44 with one home run and three RBIs in 19 RBIs. He can play any of the three outfield positions.
