Grichuk joins Cards in Pittsburgh; Robinson to DL

The Cardinals recalled outfielder Randal Grichuk on Tuesday while placing Shane Robinson on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury.

The roster move was expected after Robinson suffered a subluxation (partial joint dislocation) of his shoulder while sliding into second base in the ninth inning of Monday’s 3-2 win. Robinson said after the game that he would be heading back to St. Louis for further examination.

Grichuk gives the Cardinals a replacement outfielder on the roster and offers a right-handed power bat off the bench. Grichuk, acquired by the organization in a trade with the Angels last November, has hit .259/.311/.493 with a team-most 25 homers in 108 games with Triple-A Memphis this season. He has a .325 batting average against left-handed pitching.

The Cardinals carried Grichuk on their Major League roster earlier this year, during which Grichuk went 6-for-44 with one home run and three RBIs in 19 RBIs. He can play any of the three outfield positions.

Hopefully Grichuk will give the team some pop off the bench.

Stanton

Hi Jennifer, I’m a longtime Cardinals fan who has lived all over the US, now I’m in sunny Northern Cali. Thanks to your blog and MLB extra innings, its easy to stay connected. I heard rumors of Yadi coming back tomorrow night against the Cubs. How does he look? Do you think he is well enough to make an impact the last 4 weeks of the season?

As of 8-28-14 the Cards hadn’t even scored 500 runs.Yadi will have to do more than he did prior to the injury. It’s an issue that must be aggressively solved. Stanton is my choice and the PED Sox will be in the mix big time.Mo must be creative and lately I haven’t seen that from him.

Chicago is an offensive machine compared to the Cards, which still haven’t scored its 500th run this year. Stanton, Stanton and you guessed it Stanton. And where are the people who are disappointed in this year’s performances? Who is ticked off at Mo’s moves,or lack there of? Just keep spitting out the fluff on this blog.
