Garcia walked 5. If Martinez had done that, he’d have been pulled immediately after his 5th walk…or more likely right after his 4th walk. Jacob deGrom was terrific…with his 96 mph fastballs. He outpitched the Cardinal batters, plain & simple.

Win of lose this is an amazing collection of talent by the General Manager. I think when you consider that this series and the next have and will be against two of the best that baseball has to offer you just have to sit back and enjoy the games. The Cardinals are and will soar this season, so as a fan all I would advise all to do is drop the negativity and watch the drive to the World Series and record how they get there.

New York take away: Holliday, Bourjos, and Molina getting rest for the Kansas City series. And Garcia coming back shows such perseverance, that the entire team has to think that any problems or slumps they are having can be overcome when they see this man in the dugout still trying to help them win. If he dose nothing else this season he has contributed mightily to the teams drive to the World Series by his example.

You’re correct. The Cards are an amazingly talented group. And with so many young players, there’s a potential for them to get even better. I was glad to see Molina get some rest. But as for Garcia? I’m simply ambivalent about him, not exactly negative. Last year he went against the team’s advice, and opted to have surgery anyway. But still? The truth is…any other pitcher would’ve been pulled earlier.

Which basically is my point. He is not any other pitcher and I feel that the Cardinals are in a win-win situation with him. Say he bombs out after this outing. You don’t sign him and his salary is available for use by the Cardinals. Say he performs, and helps the team in it’s drive to the World Series. Would you sign him to a contract next year? This is what Garcia is at the present moment to the Cardinals. Right now he has shown the best performance in replacing Wainwright. Do lets hope, as Cardinal fans that the past is the past, and that Garcia wins a WS ring with the Cardinals on the field.

Well, there’s an article or 2 I’ve read about Garcia saying that the Cards may not exactly trust him. This is the last year of his contract, and the Cards are obligated to pay him the remaining $9.25M for 2015. If his next few outings aren’t any better than today or get even worse? About the only way the Cards could recoup their money, would be to designate Garcia to a minor-league assignment and hope somebody picks him up on waivers. (Very doubtful, as questionable as his health’s been.) I’ve had a funny feeling all along that he’d rather the Cards just give up on him and eat the remainder of the contract. He may simply want to retire, I’m guessing….WITH the $9.25M, of course.

PS I meant that Garcia’s gotta’ do better about walks.
