Any thoughts of getting Chapman just so he doesn’t end up with the Dodgers, Nationals or Pirates?

Considering his 106mph fastballs…Aroldis would likely cost too much and Mozeliak wouldn’t probably wanna’ spend the big bucks. No doubt he’ll bring far more than the $8M he contracted for, this year.
However, a good idea to try tying him up so he doesn’t hurt us in the future. Just not really financially feasible for the Red Birds.
And then…we do have Rosie, who can throw flamers too. Only a few mph’s less than Chapman…which isn’t all THAT bad. ; )

Yes there are a couple of starters on the market who could come back to haunt us as well if the Dodgers or another rival snags them. The patient in house development obviously works with all the Cardinals’ young talent, but can come undone if big spenders actually put together a good level of talent.

Yeah, Bob. But that’s most every year if ya’ think about it. The Cards prize their farm teams, and that’s simply the Cardinal Way. ; )

Grichuk having another off night. In fact the entire offense has gone to sleep again tonight. Rough for Lynn who has been excellent again.

Right on Bob. Lynn has luckily brought his A-game tonite. Unfortunately, LIKE the WSox? Our offense leaves something to be desired.
Grichuk has an average off-bat speed that’s 2nd in our league, by the way. But if & when ya’ wiff? That doesn’t even come into play.
Kinda’ bother’s me that Grichuk gets into the hole, 0-2 so often. Then again, maybe you can chalk that up to being young? Hope so, anyway.

Well Yadi came through and they managed an exciting win, despite weak performances by Wong and Carpenter as well. First triple in over 4 seasons for Yadi and they are the first to 60 wins. What a start to the post All Star season, with Pittsburgh losing again. Will see how Lackey does on short rest against the second best team in MLB this year.

Chapman won’t end up with us too costly in $$$$ and prospects. West coast seems like his destination. Yadi had three hits and none bigger than that triple.Grichuk is going to be a player and needs to play alot.We can’t treat him like the Red Sox did to Xavier Boggerts and probably hurt his development by a year.We still have the best runs scored to runs given up differential in MLB. I still think that Lind will be the rent a player we bring in.LaRoche, from the White Sox,is another possibility but after this recent series he showed very little, thus Lind seems to be the first choice for now.Additional pitching will be the hardest to get because everyone wants it and when there’s a seller’s market some GM will go nuts to save his job and make a stupid deal.Mo has never shown me he’s that type, thus any added arm will be from within.

Agree about the arms coming from within. Look at Tuivailala last nite. His control was pretty good, not to mention his pitches were hitting the 97mph mark. Plus, he was playing SS until only a coupla’ years ago. Who knows what the future holds for him. Lotsa’ potential there.
Hmmm, Wong was 0 for 5 last nite. Carp’s bat was off, too. But I have faith they’ll come around.
One of the play-by-play guys last nite, said he thought MM & Mo will likely be real careful about any new players they bring in….saying the present “chemistry” of the Cards might suffer. Perhaps, that’s a valid point?
The Royals are gonna’ be tough tonite and Lackey’s probably our best bet vs KC. So fingers crossed….

Excellent points Haley.I also wanted to point out in my previous post, but for got,was Rosenthal’s 10 pitch 1K outing. He was back to being over powering.MM must keep him fresh,he’s key for us especially come Sept/Oct. Tulvailala hitting 97mph, wow.I don’t think I’ve ever driven 90 let alone 97! K.C. will be a good test for us.The good news is we’re at home.Pitts hosts the Nats. and that’s no pic-nic the way they’ve been playing lately.Injury bug hit the Nats. hard the other night, so we’ll see.

Yup, sure was good to see Rosie back to his ole’ self again. I swear, if you look at his build? Proportionally speaking, Trevor has the widest shoulders I’ve ever seen on a pitcher, much less any player for that matter. Wonder if that helps with his torque?
As for Tuivailala? I truly feel that with more work, sharpening up & expanding his pitching repertoire…he could turn out to be another closer. Maybe to alternate with Rosenthal. It looks like he’s got the heart & talent. : )

Kazmir to the Astros for two prospects……….and so it begins!!!!
